Thank you, Lord, for Betty…and Ed

Betty was just beautiful, inside and out. Although I know she’s in a better place, I have tears. Thank you, Lord, for Betty…and Ed. What a huge inspiration they were to me in my own walk with Christ.

She is the role model other Pastor’s wives should follow

I will always remember Betty as an amazing and supportive Pastor’s wife. She is the role model other Pastor’s wives should follow. I loved it when Ed would “zing” her from the pulpit during a message and she would give a him a look and just nod her head like, oh yeah, wait till we get home buster. One thing I will never forget was during the winter, I was driving to church with the wife and my mom. The snow was piled pretty high and I needed to make a turn to get to church. I nudged my way out as I couldn’t see, and this car driven by Barbara, with Betty in the passenger seat and Dave in the back seat, came up the hill. Betty started shaking her fist at me like where did you learn how to drive you moron. Funny thing is she did not know it was me and so we followed her to the church and of course I gave her a hard time about it with laughs for all. I never let her forget either as I mentioned it a few times during the times I got to preach. She will be missed by family and friends alike.

I will always have a spot in my heart for her

My memories of this beautiful, Godly lady are nothing but the best. She was one of the most loving, caring, Godly women anyone could know. I felt privileged to be part of her life. I remember our Tuesday Bible studies and the laughs Pastor, her, and a few others had during this time. Sometimes, we didn’t get much done, but somehow I always felt better when I left. She loved her family as much as they did her. I will always have a spot in my heart for her. My prayers will be said for the family, that God will give them the strength they will need in the coming days. R.I.P., my friend. Say hello to Pastor for me, and I will see you again someday.

Oh he was passionate!

We very, very fondly remember this dear man who loved his Lord and people so much! We will miss him. He gave us good words from God’s word. Oh he was passionate! Bro. Hernandez came from Panama. Pastor Ed received him gladly and was thrilled to see the children and folks in Panama preaching the Gospel. He was and is an inspiration to all those who love the Lord Jesus Christ. He always had a good word and more!

I never forgot that spot of kindness he gave me

I am Rod Cantwell and when I attended Worcester Boys Trade High School in 1951 Ed got me a job working with him in a department store on Main St. I got paid the total sum of $.65 per hour. I was grateful for that. I never forgot that spot of kindness he gave me to help me get a job – my first! Yes, I was from a poor family and the money went to buy food. Tough days they were. Thanks Ed – I also forwarded your kindness to others over all these years. Rest in peace my friend.

THANK GOD FOR YOU!

Pastor Ed Barrus was one of a kind, a man of God whom God used is various ways to bring light and hope to the lost. It was my privilege and joy to have a friend such as he! Having had many of his children in school, our history goes back decades. In all those years I cannot remember Bro. Barrus complaining or having any negative reports. Bro. Ed was so upbeat and what a sense of humor. I recall something like his sharing the source of his youth: “The 3rd aisle of Walgreens, the 4th row down – Grecian Formula!” It was so refreshing to see a blend of his sense of humor and the seriousness with which he approached the pulpit ministry and his reaching of souls. Ed, I’ll see you again! As Joseph Clark wrote in his poem “Thank God for You.” Some day I hope with you to stand Before the throne, at God’s right hand; And to say to you- at journey’s end: ‘Praise God, you’ve been to me a friend.’ “THANK GOD FOR YOU!”

He showed so much love to me and my family

I can’t even begin to say how much this man has changed my life. Because of him and his love for God and his teachings, I was once a sinner now I’m saved. He showed so much love to me and my family, He was always just a phone call away. I remember my family from Maine came to visit and we got on the subject of religion I couldn’t answer a lot of their questions so, I called Pastor Barrus and he came right up, they were so impressed with him, they said how many Pastors would take the time out of their day to answer questions of people he knew he would probably never see again. I knew he would. I remember the time my husband had his heart attack, Pastor would come and sit on the porch and visit with him for hours just talking about the service or truck driving, they had a lot in common. On Wednesday mornings a few of us would have bible study with him it was so much fun, his humor was so great. I could go on and on about this wonderful man and the memories I have but, I’ll finish by saying I have been so blessed to have had him and his whole family in my life. R. I. P. Pastor you will forever have a place in my heart.

Pastor Barrus loved people

Pastor Barrus used to call the church office (Twin City Baptist Church) periodically and as soon as I answered he would start right into a funny joke (usually based on a current news event). He would have me in stitches! I always looked forward to seeing him at Twin City as a guest preacher. His sermons were relevant and of course intertwined with humor. Pastor Barrus loved people and was very approachable and encouraging. I was blessed to have known him.
